Brazilian CNPJ lookup

Enter a Brazilian CNPJ (company ID) and see public company data straight from Receita Federal — legal name, status, address, activity codes, and partner list.

Source: Brazil`s public federal CNPJ registry via BrasilAPI, updated every ~90 days. For real-time registration status, check the official Receita Federal portal.

About the data

The returned data comes from the public Brazilian federal CNPJ registry, published as a quarterly dump at [dadosabertos.rfb.gov.br/CNPJ](https://dadosabertos.rfb.gov.br/CNPJ/). The lookup is done via [BrasilAPI](https://brasilapi.com.br), a public, free service that maintains an indexed mirror of this dataset.

What you will see: legal name, trade name, registration status (active, cancelled, suspended, unfit), incorporation date, primary and secondary activity codes (CNAE), full address, share capital, legal form, company size, and the corporate and management structure (QSA — partners and administrators).

What you will NOT see: real-time data. The public registry is updated approximately every 90 days, so a CNPJ issued yesterday may not yet appear. For real-time registration status questions, always check the official Receita Federal portal.

Why this matters for compliance and credit: before closing any contract with a Brazilian company, validating the federal registration status is a basic KYC/due diligence step. A "cancelled" company can no longer contract in its own name, and an "unfit" company has severe restrictions. This tool serves for the initial check — for lawsuit due diligence (whether the company has court cases, labor claims, enforcement actions, etc.), use Vigilant.

Frequently asked questions

How can I look up a Brazilian CNPJ for free?

Receita Federal publishes the full CNPJ dataset as quarterly open-data dumps (dadosabertos.rfb.gov.br/CNPJ). You can query it directly on the official portal (by issuing the "Comprovante de Inscrição e de Situação Cadastral") or via APIs that index this dataset — like BrasilAPI used by this tool. Both are free and require no sign-up.

Is the BrasilAPI CNPJ lookup reliable?

Yes — data comes directly from the official Receita Federal public dump, updated every ~90 days. BrasilAPI does not alter or enrich records — it just exposes the official dataset via REST API. For real-time registration status (e.g. recently cancelled CNPJ), check the official Receita portal.

Why does a CNPJ show up as "cancelled" (baixado) or "unfit" (inapto)?

"Baixado" means the company was formally closed (voluntary or administrative decision). "Inapto" means the company failed to file mandatory declarations for 2 consecutive years — usually a sign of fiscal abandonment. Both are red flags in due diligence: a cancelled company cannot contract, an unfit one has severe restrictions.

How long until a new CNPJ appears in the public dataset?

30 to 90 days. Receita Federal updates public dumps quarterly, so a CNPJ issued yesterday only appears in the next release. To validate a freshly issued CNPJ in real time, the only source is the official Receita portal.

Can I get the partner/shareholder structure (QSA) from a CNPJ?

Yes — this tool returns the full QSA (partners and administrators) with name, qualification and entry date. Corporate partner names appear in full, while individual partner names in arms-length lookups are partially masked (e.g. MARIA S***** DA SILVA). To cross-reference QSA against the partners' court case history, use Vigilant.
