The Ceará State Court (TJCE) is the Northeast state court with a distinctive trait: runs ESAJ and PJE in parallel — ESAJ concentrates cases from Fortaleza capital and metropolitan region, PJE covers the interior and new cases. It spans 184 Ceará municipalities with strong volume in corporate, real estate, family and tax-enforcement matters. PJE migration is progressive, with no announced final deadline.

TJCE at a glance

  • Over 2.5 million active cases
  • 184 comarcas covering the entire state of Ceará
  • TWO active systems: ESAJ (capital/metro) + PJE (interior)
  • Around 500 active judges
  • Strong presence of corporate and real-estate matters in Fortaleza
  • Progressive PJE migration (interior first, capital gradually)

TJCE lawsuit search by CPF

To search TJCE cases by CPF, you need to know which system the case is on: ESAJ (esaj.tjce.jus.br) covers Fortaleza capital and metropolitan region, PJE (pje.tjce.jus.br) covers the interior and newer cases. For complete due diligence, query BOTH — a CPF may have cases spread between systems. On ESAJ, use /cpopg/open.do (1st instance) with CAPTCHA. On PJE, "Consulta Pública" without authentication. Coverage includes all 184 Ceará comarcas (Fortaleza, Caucaia, Maracanaú, Juazeiro do Norte, Sobral, Crato, Quixadá). Labor cases are NOT on TJCE; they go to TRT-7. To avoid manual duplication, the Vigilant API queries both systems in a single call and consolidates as structured JSON.

How to search lawsuits at TJCE

Via the Vigilant API, a single REST call with a CPF returns the court's cases as structured JSON. You can also query through the web dashboard or via Google Sheets.

  1. 1

Pick the system based on the comarca

Cases in Fortaleza, Caucaia, Maracanaú (metropolitan area) — usually on ESAJ (esaj.tjce.jus.br). Cases in the interior — usually on PJE (pje.tjce.jus.br). When unsure, query both.

  2. 2

    ESAJ: esaj.tjce.jus.br

Access /cpopg/open.do for 1st instance. CPF search requires CAPTCHA. Same interface as TJSP. Returns cases from capital and metropolitan region.

  3. 3

    PJE: pje.tjce.jus.br

Choose "Public Search" from the menu. CPF search without authentication. Returns interior cases and new capital cases already migrated.

  4. 4

    Consolidate results from both systems

Cases may appear in only one system. CNJ deduplication is manual — if you query both, cross-check before reporting.

  5. 5

    Or use Vigilant

The Vigilant API queries TJCE ESAJ and PJE in a single call and returns consolidated result as structured JSON. Ideal for due diligence at scale.

Local quirks & calendar

TJCE suspends deadlines on Ceará state holidays: March 25 (Ceará Magna Date), plus national ones. Standard forensic recess (Dec 20 to Jan 20). The central peculiarity — like TJBA — is the coexistence of ESAJ and PJE. Fortaleza still keeps ESAJ in many courts; the interior is mostly on PJE. For due-diligence planning, this split is relevant: the same CPF may have cases in both systems.

Manual portal vs Vigilant API

Time per query 8-12 min (summing the 2 systems) ~60s

Frequently asked questions about TJCE

Does TJCE use ESAJ or PJE?

Both. ESAJ covers most Fortaleza and metropolitan region cases. PJE covers the interior and new cases in migration. For full due diligence, query both — or use the Vigilant API which unifies them.

How do I know which system has a TJCE case?

By comarca (Fortaleza = usually ESAJ; interior = PJE) and date (post-2019 tends to PJE). When unsure, query both or use Vigilant.

Which Ceará comarcas are covered?

All 184 state comarcas, from Fortaleza to inland cities like Juazeiro do Norte, Sobral, Crato and Quixadá. A CPF query automatically covers the entire state.

Are there local holidays that suspend deadlines?

March 25 (Ceará Magna Date) + national ones. Some interior comarcas have municipal patron-saint suspensions. Check the [TJCE calendar](https://www.tjce.jus.br).

How do I query Ceará labor cases?

Labor cases are not on TJCE — they go to TRT-7 (Regional Labor Court of the 7th Region). Vigilant covers TJCE but not TRT-7 at this time.

How do I monitor new TJCE filings?

Via Vigilant continuous monitoring — alerts when new cases appear in ESAJ or PJE. Frequencies: 6h, 12h, daily, weekly.

Does TJCE have an official API?

Not for individual case search. DataJud (from CNJ) provides aggregated statistics. The Vigilant API is the most practical way to integrate TJCE into internal systems.
